Research profile
Classification
Long R3 analog of insulin-like growth factor 1 (83-aa recombinant peptide)
Mechanism of action
IGF-1 LR3 substitutes Arg for Glu at position 3 and adds a 13-residue N-terminal extension, markedly reducing affinity for IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP-1 to -6) and extending circulating half-life. Signals through the IGF-1 receptor tyrosine kinase to activate PI3K–Akt–mTOR and Ras–MAPK cascades governing protein synthesis, proliferation and anti-apoptotic signaling.
Investigated research applications
- IGF-1R binding, autophosphorylation and IGFBP-displacement assays
- Myotube hypertrophy and satellite cell proliferation models
- PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway activation and protein synthesis studies
- Cell culture supplementation for serum-free proliferation protocols
